Working Student & Internship Programs

At FRRS we offer working student and intern programs.
These programs allow participants that meet the requirements to gain
stable management knowledge, instructing skills and horse experience that is not typically taught in a normal lesson.
The programs are broken down into age groups with different requirements and responsibilities.
Please be aware that space is limited and all participants and applicants will be reviewed on an annual basis. There is no guarantee that someone will be accepted based on prior participation.

Please note that this is not a hired position, this is a volunteer program for educational purposes only.

Jr. Working Student

This program is for students AGES 10 - 14 who are passionate about horses and want to learn as well as help out around the barn.

- Riding skill equivalent to CHA Level 2 or higher
- Must complete application and working interview
- Must be reliable and have a ride to and from the barn.
- Must be capable of doing assigned tasks to expected standards (will not be expected to complete tasks without training or proper supervision/help)
- Must be respectful and able to follow instructions
- Must be an enrolled student in our lesson program with a minimum of 2 lessons per month

Working Student Program

This program is split into two age groups.

Jr. Working Student Sr. Working Student

This program is for students AGES 13 - 15 . This program is for students AGES 16 +

- Riding equivalent to CHA level 2 or higher
- Must complete application and working interview
- Must be reliable and have a ride to and from the barn
- Must be capable of doing assigned task to expected standards (will have training and supervision/help)
- Must be respectful and able to follow instructions
- Must be an enrolled student in our lesson program with a minimum of 2 full priced lessons per month
- Must pass a background check if 18 yeard or older.

- Cleaning and organizing stable area, arena, tack room, bathrooms, etc.
- Help with care of horses
- Sanitize, clean and organize grooming tools, tack and other supplies
- Scooping manure
- Participate in barn improvement projects and work days
- Assist with daily chores
- Assist with lessons
- Gather supplies for Instructor
- Help students groom, saddle, and prep for their lesson
- Help with special events
- Help students with after lesson horse care and to put horses away

** Working students MAY have the possibility to exercise and assist in training for horses in their riding/experience level.

Internship Program

This program is for anyone AGES 16 + who is passionate about horses and want to gain more in depth equine knowledge as well as barn management, leadership
and instructing skills. This program is perfect for students who are interested in an equine college field or need experience/hours for a current program.
Please remember that this is an unpaid internship for educational purposes only.

We currently offer two options for our internship program. If you have questions about the program or dates please contact us!

Option 1. Short Term Internship

This option is a 3 week program with 5 pre-determined date options.

Option 2. Long Term Internship

This option is for individuals who want a longer internship experience. Our head instructor will work with accepted applicants for dates that will work
